Scenic Driving Near Tempe AZ
It’s fun to leave behind the Tempe urban scene and venture out into the wilderness for some scenic drives. One favorite is the Sky Island Scenic Byway. This paved 25-mile road takes you up Mount Lemmon at over 9,000 feet. Temperatures can drop about 25 degrees at the very top.
The trip from Wilcox to Chiricahua Scenic Drive takes you along Arizona 186 and 181. At low elevations, you can enjoy unique views of the Upper Sonoran Desert.
At higher elevations, the fir and pine forests offer their deep greens. Towering rock formations form breathtaking scenes, especially as you approach Massai Point. The trip back will be just as beautiful. Summer heat and winter snow can curtail your trip so be sure to check the weather.
