2024 Hyundai Elantra Review - Trim Levels and Hybrid Editions Arrive for the New Model Year
Boasting 100 cubic feet of passenger space, the 2024 Hyundai Elantra seems more like a midsize than a compact sedan. Styling, already sharp, has been updated inside and out for the new model year.
For the most money-saving fuel economy, the 2024 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid is a good bet. It maintains the same size and amenities. On the other hand, maybe you are looking for equipment and attitude. The 2024 Hyundai Elantra N comes fully loaded, brags one Car and Driver reviewer.
With so many choices, shoppers need to know more about how the Elantra trim levels and Elantra hybrids are different and the same. We’ve brought that information together in this review.
What’s New for the Standard Trim Levels?
There’s a whole new look for the regular Elantra. The trim levels have added features at every level. Hyundai continues to offer the standard engine, front wheel drive, and an automatic transmission on the SE, SEL and Limited trims.
SE models are the most affordable. Yet they come with a big list of driver assistance, making this trim level a true value. Plus it has a touchscreen and everything fun to go with it.
The second-tier SEL is a favorite with many drivers. That’s because it adds even more value and provides more amenities for the driver’s and passengers’ comfort. Now it has the larger 10.25-inch touchscreen and its advanced voice recognition.
Elantra Limiteds work even harder this year to earn their pricetag. A leather interior and other amenities make it more upscale. The wireless charger and Hyundai Digital Key are upgraded to work on your behalf even better than before.
Offering a step up from the regular engine, the 2024 Elantra N-Line has a speedy and efficient turbo. This produces 200 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. It has a sporty interior and exterior to match its sport sedan attitude.
What Dash Tech and Connectivity Tools are On Board?
The Elantra SE has an 8-inch touchscreen. This utilizes Bluetooth for easy interface with your smartphone. Wireless Android Auto puts your Android phone apps right on the screen. Wireless Apple CarPlay does the same for iPhones.
For 2024, every Elantra has the technology to allow you to get a WiFi hotspot. This subscription will give everyone in the car the ability to use their smart devices. That adds another level of entertainment to the ride.
With the 10.25-inch touchscreen, Hyundai adds Dynamic Guidance to provide you with turn-by-turn guidance and current maps. This system benefits from faster voice recognition.
SiriusXM satellite radio is available on both touchscreens. However, the 10.25-inch screen system includes the ability to get SiriusXM Data Services, including NavTraffic and NavWeather.
What Driver Assistance is Standard?
Elantra sedans have two advanced features that many rivals simply don’t. For instance, the blind spot monitor can trigger tire-specific braking to help the driver avoid hitting a car to the right or left. For the rear cross traffic alert, the driver benefits from a rear auto brake to help prevent a collision.
New for 2024, those two alert systems and the lane keeping assist can alert drivers in a new way. There’s haptic feedback on the steering wheel. That’s a quick and effective way to get the driver’s attention.
The forward collision avoidance assist system includes automatic braking for both pedestrian detection and stopping traffic ahead. Drivers benefit from more standards such as the attention warning, lane following assist, and automatic high beams.
New for 2024, rear seat outboard passengers are covered by side-impact airbags. In fact, there’s more emphasis on the second row than ever with a new rear-seatbelt reminder, rear occupant alert, and safe exit assist. These tools are there to help parents keep kids safer.
What Additional Driver Assistance is Available?
On certain trim levels, the forward-collision system can be even more thorough, allowing the vehicle to recognize cyclists and junction-turning dangers. Smart Cruise Control is the perfect tool for busy commuters. It can handle stop-and-go traffic situations.
The Elantra Limited gains a number of new tools for the 2024 model year. It has front and rear parking sensors to help the driver avoid obstacles. Rear parking sensors can trigger a rear autobrake.
The surround view camera can give the driver a bird’s eye view. It’s a great way to see everything around the perimeter of the vehicle.
Limited Editions also have Highway Driving Assist. This utilizes the features from Smart Cruise Control and Lane Following Assist to provide a semi-automated experience.
The Hyundai Digital Key provides more security and a more seamless driving experience. There’s even an upgrade for the rear occupant alert that can add the ability to reach out to parent-owners via the Hyundai app.
What’s New for the 2024 Elantra Hybrid?
The 2024 Elantra Hybrid is larger than many hybrid rivals, including the Toyota Prius. It easily competes in price with the Toyota Corolla Hybrid and has a bigger backseat, too. At this point, there still isn’t a Honda Civic Hybrid so it’s got one up on that competitor.
Drivers will appreciate the command of 195 lb-ft of torque. Earning 54 mpg combined, the driving range for the Blue is 594 miles. Earning 50 mpg combined, Limited Hybrids can claim 550 miles of driving range.
This 139-horsepower hybrid engine doesn’t need to be plugged in. It keeps its beefy hybrid battery pack charged without any extra help. Well, it does use regenerative braking to capture power and channel it back into the system. Nothing goes to waste in this smart machine.
Trim levels are the Hybrid Blue and Limited. Like the SEL Elantras, Hybrid Blue Elantras are packed with advanced technology you’d expect from this forward-leaning vehicle. Limited editions have the two-screen cockpit with the large TFT-LCD cluster behind the steering wheel and the largest touchscreen in easy reach of the driver’s right hand.
The Bose premium audio system is a standard on both the regular and Hybrid Limited. It has 8 speakers including a center channel and subwoofer. You can expect crystal clear sound that makes your favorite music sound even better.
What’s new for the 2024 Hyundai Elantra N?
The 2024 Elantra N is truly different from the other Elantra models. It was designed by the N Division to reflect their intimate knowledge of what makes a good race car.
Of course, it starts with a well-crafted engine. In this case, a 2.0-L turbocharged GDI 4-cylinder unit produces 276 horsepower and 289 lb-ft of torque. It has special features like Launch Control, a manual transmission, and N Grin Shift.
An electronically controlled suspension really boosts the handling and ride quality in this small car. Performance brakes, including ventilated 14.2-inch rotors, ensure quicker stops. A special build with targeted reinforcements include upgrades to the front and rear suspension.
The N Corner Carving Differential adds to the excitement by allowing the vehicle to maintain velocity when others would be hitting the brakes. Instead of braking the inner wheels, this electronic limited slip differential can move torque to the outer wheels.
Always seeking to perfect the package, the N engineers made a number of updates to this sport sedan. They focused on many different aspects:
Steering: New gearbox yoke specs, universal joint friction reduction
Body Control: Improved ECS hardware with optimized software
Agility: Reinforced engine mount membrane.
Yaw Response & Steering: G bushing reinforcements
Improved Rear Damping: Urethane ABS insulator (replaces rubber)
Chassis & Steering: optimized power steering software to support changes
Handling & Balance: 36/34 front/rear PSI tire pressure increase
This sport sedan has many new interior elements as well. There’s a full digital instrument cluster and illuminated N logos. The steering wheel and shifter have a new look. Like the N-Line, there are special alloy pedals specific to the trim.
What is the Elantra Fuel Economy by Trim Level?
With the standard engine, the SE, SEL and Limited Elantras can claim 37 mpg combined. That’s without hybrid technology to assist! Elantra Hybrid Blue models earn 54 mpg combined. N-Line models can claim 31 mpg combined, including an excellent 36 mpg highway. Speedy Elantra N models manage to earn 25 mpg combined, including 31 mpg on the highway.
Drive modes include a Smart setting to help you take advantage of times when fuel economy can be prioritized. Idle Stop & Go is standard on the Elantra SE, giving you another tool for saving fuel. Naturally, the N-Line and N models benefit from their turbo technology. It squeezes more power out of every drop of fuel.
You can see the city/highway fuel economy in the whole lineup here. We take you from good to better to best:
N Automatic: 21/30 mpg
N Manual: 22/31 mpg
N-Line: 28/36 mpg
SEL/Limited: 37/42 mpg
SE: 37/42 mpg with Idle Stop & Go
Hybrid Limited: 49/52 mpg
Hybrid Blue: 53/56 mpg
What’s Changed About the Style and Exterior Colors?
The 2024 Hyundai Elantra really does look different from every side. The front has a shark-like nose with new daytime running lights. There’s a personalized touch with the use of the body color as the center element in the new two-piece grille. New fenders and a new fascia wrap up the style.
There are new wheel choices to spruce up the sides. Special C Pillars were clearly influenced by the Hyundai style. In addition to a revised rear fascia, the rear diffuser has been updated and now sports a silver U-shaped accent.
Models gain more color options, including Amazon Gray, Ultimate Red, and Ecotonic Gray. New for 2024, Exotic Green is an exclusive Elantra N color choice.
Elantra N models receive their own modifications to the new style. Their shark nose wears a trim-specific grille. Special side sills dress up the sides. An aerodynamic wing spoiler takes up the rear. This sport sedan has large forged alloy wheels and dual exhaust pipes.
How Big is the 2024 Elantra?
2024 Hyundai Elantras offer 99.4 cubic feet of passenger space. Carefully crafted, there’s more space at every position. The second row benefits from 38 inches of legroom. As many reviewers have noted, this compact sedan is really more of a midsize.
The larger backseat has a significant advantage for parents. With more space to move around, they will find that it is easier to put in child seats and baby carriers. In the same way, it’s easier to put children in and take children out of those seats.
The trunk measures 14.2 cubic feet. An easy-release button in the trunk lets you fold down the backseat. On Limited trims, the seatback is split 60-40 for a variety of seating and cargo configurations.
We invite you to value your trade using our Kelley Blue Book online tool. Your current ride may make the perfect down payment on a new Hyundai Elantra Hybrid or standard Elantra.
How do Price and Ownership Costs Compare?
The Elantra price undercuts the Honda Civic, Subaru Crosstrek, and other rivals. Elantra hybrid prices undercut the Toyota Prius. However, the Elantra earns its price tag with its generous features list and a good reputation for low ownership costs and durability.
While some inexpensive cars will simply cost you more later in repairs, the Hyundai Elantra has a solid reputation for going the distance. It even has scheduled maintenance coverage for three years. You don’t find that on the Kia Forte. Furthermore, it has the best warranties you’ll find in automotives today.
Representing two extra years when compared to regular warranties, the Limited warranty goes for 60,000 miles or five years. Representing five extra years of coverage, the Powertrain warranty goes for 100,000 miles or 10 years.
The good gas mileage for all Elantras is another way that the car earns its keep. As the best of the best, the Elantra Hybrid Blue can save $4,750 over five years when compared to a car with average fuel economy. (Source: fueleconomy.gov)
Peace of mind follows an Elantra purchase as well. The new model received the Top Safety Pick award. This is earned in crash testing at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Now that you know more, why not schedule a test drive? You can test out the many different technologies and see firsthand how well these compact sedans fit your lifestyle.
