2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 Review
If you have been waiting for the right electric vehicle, then you'll be glad to know the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 is here. A unique exterior marks it as a remarkably different ride.
The incredibly modern cabin shows what can happen when designers work directly with engineers. This people-friendly interior presents as the high quality style you expect from an automotive purchase today, and it features reclaimed and eco friendly materials. This new Hyundai EV is the way to go electric with personality and style.
Style and Size
Since designers got to start from scratch when building the Ioniq 6, they were able to think outside of the traditional automotive style. The result is an extremely spacious cabin that still has everything the driver and passengers need.
Using the electric global modular platform as its base, the new build allows for a stretched interior with ample headroom and legroom for everyone. Adults can sit on the back row comfortably, thanks in part to the cabin’s flat floor.
Powertrain and Electric Range
If you have been waiting for the right electric vehicle, then you'll be glad to know the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 is here. Whether it’s the more affordable 2WD model or the racy AWD model, this Hyundai EV emphasizes drivability and fun.
The standard 77.4 kWh battery is mated to a single rear motor in the two-wheel drive model. Output is either 149 or 225 horsepower. However, it is the 258 lb-ft of instantaneous torque that really drives this rear-wheel EV. The Ioniq 6 SE can go up to 361 miles with a fully charged battery. With larger wheels, the Ioniq 6 Limited averages 305 miles of electric range.
Stepping up to the all-wheel drive option, drivers will command 320 horsepower and a whopping 446 lb-ft of torque. This one takes less than five seconds to rush from zero to 60 miles per hour. It has a dual motor set-up. This adds a front motor to complement the rear motor. Electric range for the Ioniq 6 SE AWD is 316 miles. With 20-inch wheels, the SEL and Limited AWD models can go 270 miles.
As you can see, there’s no range anxiety here. These EVs are made to go long distances, and they charge quickly.
These figures are EPA estimates for comparison purposes only. They will vary with driving conditions and habits. Driving range is also affected by the advanced age of the vehicle and battery condition.
Exterior Colors and Style
From the curb, this electric car looks futuristic. That’s due to the aerodynamic shaping that engineers used to make it as efficient as possible. You may get excited about the rear wing, although this isn’t just for show. It helps achieve a low drag coefficient. Active air flaps and a covered underbody add to its ability to cheat the wind.
Owners can use their keyfob for keyless entry, but they also have the Hyundai Digital Key. A smartphone app communicates with the EV and unlocks the door when you approach. Handsome LED headlights have high beam assist to raise and lower light without the driver taking a hand from the steering wheel.
Ioniq 6 exterior colors include seven different shades, including Onyx Black and Serenity White Pearls. Distinctive choices include Digital Green Pearl, Ultimate Red, Curated Silver, Gravity Gold, and Transmission Blue.
High Tech Cockpit
The Ioniq 6 interior is just as high tech as anyone can expect today. It has an exciting driver’s screen instead of the traditional instrument panel. Plus the contemporary touchscreen provides advanced voice interface to ensure the fastest response. Over the air updates keep it contemporary and quick.
Ambient lighting comes with many color schemes. You can set it for your mood or let it remind you of your favorite sports team. Electric sound design is another way to personalize your experience. It provides racy engine noise to add to your driving fun.
The Hyundai Digital Key connects you to your vehicle. An alternative to your advanced keyfob, it allows your smartphone or Apple Watch to open and start your EV with the push of a button.
Cost to Own
These EVs have incredible fuel efficiency. In most cases, it is on the top end of what’s available today. The Ioniq 6 SE RWD claims 140 mpge while the AWD SE claims 121 mpge. With 20-inch wheels, the SEL and Limited editions claim 117 mpge (RWD) or 103 mpge (AWD).
To make it as inexpensive as possible to charge the vehicle overnight, BlueLink can be used to manage the battery, activating the charger when power is at its cheapest overnight.
Plus up to two years of free charging comes with your purchase. So this allows you to utilize fast charging stations each week and keep your costs down.
Of course, Hyundai warranties remain the best in the automotive industry. This guarantees your more limited coverage (5 years instead of the regular 3) and more powertrain coverage (up to 10 years instead of the typical 5).
Collision Avoidance
Forward collision assistance has come a long way. First it was forward collision warnings. Then it was the extra safety of an emergency autobrake. The system can watch for cyclists and pedestrians that may be in your path.
What’s really smart is how it has expanded to include steering assistance when necessary to avoid trouble. The Hyundai system can detect oncoming cars now as well as cars alongside the vehicle. It watches for trouble in vehicle crossings and other junctions.
This assists with side collision avoidance, helping to expand the safe travel already encouraged by an advanced lane departure system with steering assistance and lane keeping. To that, Hyundai adds a collision assist to strengthen the standard blind spot monitor.
Hyundai Advanced Technologies
Highway Driving Assist is a semi-autonomous system that combines smart cruise control with lane centering. The machine learning capability of cruise control means that it learns from you about common routes.
A Blind Spot View Monitor adds a camera view of what's behind the vehicle. This can be accessed with a push of a button. It sees problems even before the regular blind spot radar system detects a car.
Parking Assistance
Not too long ago, it was remarkable to have a rearview camera or a rear parking sensor. Now Hyundai can offer intelligent parking sensors that watch the front, side and rear. They can employ an autobrake or steering assist to help the driver avoid trouble.
A surround view monitor lets you see everything all around the Ioniq 6. The Remote Smart Parking Assist does it all, taking all the pressure off when parking spaces are tight. This system is a big favorite because you can stand by with the keyfob and watch the vehicle park.
