2023 Hyundai Venue Review | Subcompact SUV Explained
When it comes to inexpensive vehicles, the 2023 Hyundai Venue is easily one of the best. For one thing, this is a subcompact SUV rather than a car. That makes it bigger and more modern at the outset.
Furthermore, this model year has the dash tech and other modern features that make it more fun to own a new car. As for safety, it offers driver assistance to keep the SUV out of crash scenarios. This subcompact SUV comes in three trims, including the exciting Venue Limited model.
In this 2023 Hyundai Venue Review, we’ll seek to lay out the critical information important to today’s car shoppers. Scroll down to the information that matters most to your lifestyle.
Price versus Value
If price matters to you, you’ll be happy to know that the Venue is priced 43 percent less than the typical SUV in today’s marketplace. Car and Driver notes that this impressively low price is a compelling option when buying on a strict budget.
This SUV has earned a Best Value Vehicle Award (Cars) and a 2022 Best Buy (Consumer Guide). You can get competitive loan rates from the San Tan Hyundai financing department. We invite you to apply online.
Cost to Own
Hyundais have the nation’s longest warranties. These cover your Venue for up to five years for nearly everything (Limited warranty). That’s two extra years compared to most.
Then there’s up to 10 years for the powertrain warranty. That’s five years longer than most. While many manufacturers offer to sell you their longer warranties, you don’t pay an extra dime for this long coverage when you choose Hyundai. This warranty coverage is a big reason that shoppers are turning to the Venue rather than rivals such as the Nissan Kicks.
Plus, there’s complimentary maintenance for the first three years. Roadside assistance for a flat tire or any other reason is complimentary up to five years. You can move or travel and all of this coverage still applies.
Fuel economy is favorable with a 33 mpg highway rating. Combined gas mileage is rated at 31 mpg. Insurance rates are better since it has modern crash avoidance features. When you add it all up, this is one car that is easy to buy and equally easy to own.
Driver Cockpit
Venue front seats are quite comfy. The driver’s chair adjusts six ways, and the steering wheel has multiple adjustments as well. The actual perch is high since this is an SUV. Furthermore, unlike many vehicles today, the glass greenhouse has fewer obstructions, and that allows the driver to enjoy excellent outward vision.
Behind the steering wheel, the instrument panel now includes a larger driver display. This 4.2-inch screen is in color for better viewing. The steering wheel has duplicate buttons to assist with Bluetooth, music volume and other functions. A USB port allows you to plug in.
Universal Navigation and Advanced Connectivity
The 8-inch touch screen has clear menus and is simple to use. Bluetooth and built-in apps ensure connectivity. HD radio provides more stations and crisp clear sound.
For more music and information, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto allow you to connect favorite apps to the system. This includes navigational aids. You can see your Google Maps or Apple Maps as well as hear turn-by-turn instructions. And, just as it was for the 2022 Venue, all of this is included in the initial price for the 2023 Hyundai Venue.
The SEL trim adds built-in navigation to the infotainment system. That includes real-time traffic updates. Limited trims come with three years of complementary Blue Link. This allows you to utilize an app for remote starts and other functions.
Passenger Space and Cabin Quality
The cabin design doesn’t over-reach, and that’s a good thing. Instead it emphasizes a useful design with two rows of well-cushioned seating. There’s a real emphasis on fit and finish. Owners will discover the different elements are well-assembled into the whole. This helps ensure the good look will last far into the future.
Although this is a subcompact SUV, the cabin is remarkably spacious. Engineers managed to provide 91.9 cubic feet of wiggle room in the 110.6-cu ft cabin.
Headroom is 39.4 inches up front and 38.6 inches on the second row. The front seat occupants have 41.3 inches of legroom while the second row passengers have 34.3 inches to stretch their legs.
Cargo Space and Utility
Cargo space is rated at 18.7 cubic feet. It’s easy to reach thanks to the tall, wide hatch. Hyundai provides a dual-height cargo floor for greater versatility. If you want more standard cargo space, you could check out the 2023 Hyundai Kona.
For more space, the rear seat can fold completely or split-fold one section. At its largest, this provides 32 cu ft of open cargo space. Roof rails, when included, can handle gear weighing up to 175 pounds.
Venue Exterior Colors, Features and Styles
The 2023 Hyundai Venue is geared for fun. This is evident in its rainbow of seven exterior colors. Making a statement, vibrant options include Intense Blue, Scarlet Red, and a luscious Green Apple. More laidback options include Stellar Silver, Galactic Gray and Black Noir.
The standard grille is rendered in black. However, the Venue SEL and Limited have a chrome grille. These also have roof rails for utility. Limited models wear the largest alloy wheels and have LEDs for all types of exterior lighting.
Three Trim Levels: SE, SEL, Limited
As already explained, there’s a lot of dash tech on the SE. There’s also plenty of driver assistance aids. The seats come wrapped in Hyundai special cloth upholstery. Of course there’s air conditioning to take care of Phoenix AZ heat. The exterior has important features such as power-adjustable side mirrors and keyless entry.
The SEL is definitely a favorite with its automatic AC and additional stereo speakers. Drivers get a sliding armrest and a one-touch automatic-up window. Dressier than the SE, this trim level has a tilt-and-slide power sunroof. Leather trims the shift knob and steering wheel with extra softness. There’s more driver assistance to watch the sides of the vehicle.
Limited cabins have a special HTex upholstery that definitely brings a new refinement to the cabin. In addition, drivers have power-heated seats and push button start. This is the first time the trim has offered a wireless charger.
Performance and Handling
Agile and lightweight, the 2023 Hyundai Venue is made for a busy lifestyle. It slips easily in and out of traffic. Drivers can choose snug parking spaces. Rated at 16.6 feet, the turning diameter is especially compact for urban living.
Hyundai has outfitted this subcompact SUV with a capable 4-cylinder powertrain and car-like front wheel drive. The engine generates 121 horsepower. That’s controlled by a clever CVT. This continuously variable automatic transmission has a seemingly infinite number of gears rather than being limited to 6, 8 or even 10.
The top two trims add a snow mode. This helps SEL or Limited drivers when they encounter slippery or muddy roads.
Safety and Driver Assistance
With LED projector headlights, the Venue Limited claimed a Top Safety Pick from the IIHS. Of course, it’s preferable to stay out of accidents completely. That’s the purpose of the Venue’s standard driver assistance systems.
It starts with a forward collision warning and pedestrian detection. Either one can trigger an emergency autobrake to assist the driver. There’s a lane keep assist that combines a warning and a steering assist. A driver attention monitor can issue a warning if driving responses seem erratic. The high beams can automatically respond to light levels, relieving the driver of this responsibility when driving in the dark.
SEL and Limited trim levels add blind spot monitoring. This helps the driver choose the right time for a lane change. The rear cross traffic alert watches for traffic while the Venue is in reverse. This can prevent fender benders and worse wrecks during parking maneuvers.
Parent-Friendly Features
For babies or toddlers, you can position carseats in all three rear positions safely. LATCH attachments allow for a single carseat with center placement or for dual carseats in the outboard positions.

In addition, there is a standard rear occupant alert that wasn’t available on the 2022 Hyundai Venue. This system will remind caregivers to check the back row for toddlers, babies and pets before leaving the area.
